Getting to York

Whether you're travelling from Norway or the UK, York is very well connected — and well worth the journey.

From Norway

~1h 15min by TransPennine Express — direct trains run regularly throughout the day. Buy tickets on Trainline or directly with TPE.

The Guildhall is right in the heart of York's city centre, just a short walk from the station.

On foot

A lovely walk through the city walls. Follow signs for the city centre — you'll pass the Minster along the way.

Taxis are plentiful outside the station. Apps like Uber and Free Now also work in York.

By car

Parking in York

York city centre has limited parking and can be very busy on Saturdays. We strongly recommend using the Park & Ride — it's cheaper, stress-free, and drops you right in the centre.

Buses run every 10–15 min into the city centre. All-day parking from ~£3–4.

City centre car parks

If you prefer to park centrally, Marygate Car Park and Castle Car Park are both within a 10–15 minute walk of The Guildhall. Expect higher prices on Saturdays, and these can fill up early.

Travel tips

  • Book train tickets early — UK trains can be significantly cheaper when booked weeks in advance. The Trainline app makes it easy.

  • York can be busy on Saturdays — we recommend arriving the day before or earlier in the morning to avoid the crowds.

  • York's city centre is very walkable — you can easily get between the station, your hotel, the Guildhall, and the Mansion House on foot.
